Shaun: Piano Teacher in HP4, London
Our piano teacher Shaun offers classical piano lessons for ages 6 and above, from beginner to advanced. This piano teacher has a Master of Music degree and a wealth of experience both teaching and performing on piano. Shaun has been teaching piano lessons since 1990. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in piano, Shaun went on to complete a Master's degree in Music Performance at City University, London. He has over thirty years of experience as a performing pianist - as a soloist, accompanist, and chamber musician. In the 1990's he was the pianist in chamber group the Tamesis Ensemble, giving concerts across London and the South-East. He has a long history of accompanist work, playing at all levels, from professional concerts to student exams. He is currently working with the violinist and violist William Hawkes on a project to record works by acclaimed contemporary British composer Gavin Bryars, including pieces specially composed for Hawkes. Though Shaun has extensive experience as a pianist, he believes that performers whose focus is only on the instrument can miss the vital breadth necessary to understanding and interpreting great music. His own interests extend beyond the mere technical aspects of the piano; in addition to playing the piano he is a composer, a runner-up in The Times first ever Christmas Carol Competition (from more than 700 entries), and an international prize-winning writer on the Arts, winner of the first The Observer/Anthony Burgess Prize for Arts Writing. In all his teaching, Shaun’s ultimate aim is to help students better understand, more successfully play, and ultimately more greatly enjoy the inexhaustible, life-enhancing qualities of music.
