This piano teacher has a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a wealth of experience both teaching and performing on piano. James has been teaching piano lessons since 2015. For James, music has been at the centre of his world since a young age. An excellent performer, he has breadth and depth to his talent; achieving grade VIIIs on the piano, cello and clarinet. His early musical ability was recognised with scholarships to Salisbury Cathedral and Sherborne School, where he studied under Jaime Henderson. Winner of the Haliday (2011, 2015) and Patrick Shelley (2014) music competitions, he was awarded the prize for the Music School’s Contribution to Music at Commemoration on leaving the school in 2015. In 2016 he progressed to Leeds College of Music, where he graduated with a First Class Degree in 2019, studying under Jeremy Davis and Svetlana Pinegina. He gained a ARSM piano performance diploma in 2017. Most recently, he has worked as a Musical Director aboard Silversea and Royal Caribbean cruise ships. Matinee and nightly performances involved accompanying guest cabaret acts in headline shows, as well as solo piano for guests enjoying a drink. James’s fluent and highly confident style is not limited to any one genre - he is as much at ease with Chopin, Wayne Shorter, or Stevie Wonder. Other notable appearances include performing for HM Queen Elizabeth and Duke of Edinburgh in Sherborne Abbey on their Golden Jubilee Your of 2012. As a composer he was recently awarded ‘Third Place’ in the Fidelio 15th International Composition Competition (2023), as well as ‘Honourable Mention’ at the Classical Pure Vienna International Music Competition 2023 for the original composition: ‘Beijing Daydreams’, written for solo piano. James teaches with the belief that no matter what the level, piano playing should be an enjoyable and highly rewarding experience.
